Mold growth – In addition to visible mold growth and the detection of moisture in porous materials, an obvious indicator of microbial amplification is an odor that may be described as musty, moldy, or mildew.

Molds are groups of microscopic organisms that are part of the kingdom Fungi. They generally reproduce by means of spores. Growth and dissemination of certain types of mold and their spores in indoor environments as a result of water intrusion on certain building materials can degrade materials and presents certain unique health risks to humans.
